Marcus Mariota

MALE

Male - Marcus Mariota - Football - University of Oregon - 6' 4" former Saint Louis High School & Oregon Quarterback − was named this year's Heisman Trophy winner and won by a Landslide - it was a First anyone from the State of Hawaii has won this Award - became the inaugural recipient of the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year - finished the Season with the Top Quarterback rating in the Nation - was named the Pac12 Conference Championship Game's Most Valuable Player named First-Team All-American and also named the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year, received 49 of the 54 votes.

Chanelle Molina

FEMALE

Female - Chanelle Molina - Basketball - Konawaena High School - selected as the `Iolani Classic's Most Outstanding Player - averaging 21.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 7 assists per game - all 3 Teams were Nationally ranked - Konawaena is 13-1 and beat Miramonte (CA) and Riverside Baptist (MD), but lost to Saint Mary's (CA).

Vernon Knight

MALE

Male - Vernon Knight - Champion Swimmer - finished this year's Hawaiian Christmas Looong Distance Invitational Rough-H20 Swim - was honored for his effort - the veteran completed the 7 km out-and-back course along the outside surf in Waikiki Beach in 3 hours, 3 minutes (a very credible time) and received the "Old Man in the Sea Award" - he is the first 80 Year old to compete and finish the Looong Distance Swim.

MALE

Male - James Hayashi - Bowling Coach - Pearl City High School - Coached Pearl City High School to their 5th consecutive State high school bowling championship.

Isabel Villanueva

FEMALE

Female - Isabel Villanueva - Air Riflery - St. Francis High School - Won the Civilian Marksmanship Program/HHSAA Air Riflery Championships and won the ILH Title one week ago − shot a 191 in the Prone position, a 174 in the Standing position and closed her competition with a 183 in the Kneeling position − while hitting the Bull's eye 17 times.

MALE

Male - Kai Lenny - Stand Up Paddling - won the Overall title in the Stand Up World Series Finals at Turtle Bay − winning the Long-distance race and taking 2nd in the Sprint race by Seconds − the win gives Kai a 2nd Place finish in the World Series rankings.

Female - Lisa Tashiro - Cross Country - Kaiser High School - won the OIA Cross Country Championship which helped her Team to win the Over-all Title for the 2nd straight year − finished the 3-mile race in 19:32:21.

Male - Tua Tagovailoa - Football - Saint Louis School - Sophomore Quarterback, threw for 440 yards with 4 touchdowns against Pac-Five, completing 21 of 26 pass attempts. Over a 4 game stretch this season, he completed 66% of his throws with 12 touchdowns and 1 interception, and in a game against Kamehameha he passed for 397 yards, had 4 touchdowns and rushed for 172 yards - named Athlete of the Week twice this month.

Female - Twyla Hamasaki - Soccer - Chaminade University - Junior Forward for the Silverswords named PacWest Women's Soccer Player of the Week - had a 3 goal performance in 2 Matches - scored the opening goal in a 2-1 win over Holy Names and scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Dominican.

MALE

Male - Nainoa Calip - Golf - Professional - scored a 4-under par and beat his next competitor by 2 Strokes to win the Oahu Country Club's Men’s Invitational − also won the Manoa Cup this summer.

Female - Hana Lishman - Volleyball - Punahou School, Junior - had 8 Kills against 2 Teams in the Ann Kang Invitational Final on the Mainland and was selected Most Valuable Player for the Tournament.

MALE

Male - Petrv Michnev - Tennis - HPU Senior - received the Athlete of the Year award from the PacWest Conference − is an ITA All-American in both Singles and Doubles and has a record of 15−2 and 21−2, respectively − this ITA West Region Senior Player competed at No. 1 Singles and helped guide the team to a 2nd Place finish at the NCAA Championships − was also named the PacWest Scholar Athlete of the Year

Shih Ting Chen

FEMALE

Female - Shih Ting Chen - Volleyball/Outside Hitter - BYU-Hawaii, Senior - selected as PacWest Conference Female Athlete of the Year − has been named Player of the Year for 3 consecutive years and named to the 1st All-Conference squad − ranked 2nd in the Nation in Kills (5.10) and points (5.69) per set and led her Team to a 29−2 record which included a spot in the National Championship match.

Dylan Kane

Male - Dylan Kane - Track & Field - Kamehameha School Junior - Dylan Kane was named the Gatorade Hawaii Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year and football, track and field, Gatorade Player of the Year. He won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.14 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 21.92 at the state meet this past season, leading the Warriors to the championship as a team. Named the most valuable member of Kamehameha’s team in 2014, Kane also anchored the 4×100-meter relay quartet that took fourth at states in 43.29 as well as the fourth-place 4×400 relay squad, which crossed the line in 3:27.43 − also a football standout, Kane has maintained a 3.43 GPA.

Female - Rose Antonio - Softball - Mililani High School - won the Coach of the Year award for leading the Team in winning the State crown.

Male - Kodi Medeiros - Baseball - Waiakea High School senior (graduate) - 6' 1" left-handed pitcher - By Derek Harvey @D_J_Harvey, Jun 9 2014. The Milwaukee Brewers selected Hawaiian left-hander Kodi Medeiros with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 MLB draft. A short 4 days later it appears the two sides have reached an agreement according to this report. Medeiros expects to sign with the Brewers later today in Las Vegas. The signing bonus is yet to be disclosed, but it seems to be near $2 million. The slot value for the 12th overall pick is $2,805,700. Alyssa Bettendorf

Female - Alyssa Bettendorf - Track & Field - Seabury Hall - was selected as one of 12 inductees to the High School Hall of Honor for the Class of 2014…April 2014: Alyssa Bettendorf and Dakota Grossman combined for five individual wins and one Maui Interscholastic League record−breaking relay on route to a team total of 150 points…That night really belonged to Bettendorf in particular as she set new meet records in all four of her events, starting with an 18 foot, 3.75 inch jump on her last try in the girls long jump…the jump broke a 27−year old record…May 9-11, 2014 HHSAA State Track and Field Championships Alyssa Bettendorf earned 3 gold medals in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes and she was third in the long jump and sixth in the 4×400 meter relay along with her teammates Dakota Grossman, Christy Fell, and Kiana Smith…Seabury Hall obliterated the rest of the field finishing with 73 points followed by Hilo with 38 and Punahou 34…last season (2013), Bettendorf also set records in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.

Male - Keith Odette - Bowler - Eleven strikes in a row. One more and it would be a perfect game. One last ball ... and Odette knew he'd leave at least one pin standing the moment he released his Storm Marvel S down the lane at Leeward Bowl. He watched as No. 10 held its ground in the right corner, almost mockingly, as another pin slid its way but just missed a KO ... a 299. Still, not just any 299. This one capped the three-game 279-300-299, giving Odette an 878 series on Oct. 22, 11 days after his 32nd birthday. It also gave him the Hawaii state scratch series record, eclipsing the 875 in 1982 by Dan Maglangit. (Star-Advertiser - Monday May 19, 2014)

Female - Taylor Lau - St. Francis High School - Tennis - Saint Francis freshman Taylor Lau defeated defending three-time state champion Alyssa Tobita of Mililani 6-1, 6-3 to win the girls singles title at the Carlsmith Ball/ HHSAA State Tennis Championships in Wailea, Maui. "After it was over, I was sad for Alyssa," Lau said. "It's always good winning, but it's sad seeing the effects that winning can have on people, because she was trying to win it four times."

Male - Matt Cooper - University of Hawai'i - Baseball/Pitcher - selected as NCAA.com Player of the Week - this is a National Honor - First such honor for the Rainbow Warriors Baseball program - he dominated playing against Pepperdine - had a 3-hit complete-game Shutout - equaling a career-high 10 strikeouts and allowing no Walks in a 2-0 win.

FEMALE

Female - Danielle Lewis - UH Water Polo - earned the Big West Conference Women's Water Polo Player of the Week - scored 10 Goals over 4 Matches during the Claremont Convergence - first time she has received the award - currently leads the Team in scoring with 36 Goals. Victor Wales

MALE

Male - Victor Wales – UH Swimming & Diving, Head Coach – voted Men's Swimming Coach of the Year at the MPSF Swimming & Diving Championships. Coach Wales coached the Warriors to a successful 2013-14 season. UH accumulated 619 MPSF Championship points, good for a silver medal conference finish. Freshman Victor Goicoechea was the first ever MPSF Swimmer from either gender to earn two major awards in the same year, taking swimmer and freshman of the year. He broke two meet records and won three races (200, 500, and 1650 Free) over the four days. Paulo de Paula won the gold in the 100 Breast, as did Karl-Richard Hennebach in the 100 Fly, and Yuri Samouilich in the 100 free. Hawaii's 200 and 400 Medley Relay squads came out as conference champions. This is Wales' first MPSF Coaching award, also earning coach of the year honors in the WAC after his first season in 2006.

Jasmine Mau

FEMALE

Female - Jasmine Mau – Punahou Swimming – entered 4 events and broke the State-meet records in all 4 races and Punahou won the State Championship – she bested her own record in the 100-yard Butterfly and broke a 1997 record in the 200 Free-style – broke a 2007 record in the 200-yard Medley relay with her teammates. The senior chose Cal, and the setting for her official decision could not have been more appropriate. It was at the Elks Lodge, where as a 3-year-old, Mau learned to swim.

Amund Gismervik

MALE

Male - Amund Gismervik – UH diving – sophomore – The University of Hawai‘i diving squad opened up a stellar first day of competition at the Hawai‘i Diving Invitational at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic complex highlighted by victories from sophomores Amund Gismervik (3-meter and platform events plus the 1-meter dive) and Aimee Harrison (3-meter). Adding to his victory, Gismervik also set a new personal best with his men’s 1-meter win. He earned a score of 376.65, which was 55.55 points better than Wisconsin’s Andrew Schula. Gismervik was recently named a First Team All-American by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America

Jasmine Mau

FEMALE

Female - Dakota Grossman – Seabury Hall cross country – senior - named Gatorade Hawaii girls cross country runner of the year – won 4 straight individual titles and is a finalist for the national award. In 2013, the Seabury Hall Boys and Girls Cross Country teams each placed first in Division II at the HHSSA Cross Country State Meet on Kauai. In the girls race, Dakota Grossman finished first for the fourth consecutive year. At the MIL Cross Country Meet held on Molokai, the Seabury Hall girls cross country team again captured the MIL Championship. Four of the top five finishers were Spartans with Dakota Grossman leading the way. This is Dakota's second Sportsperson of the Month Award
